Refreshers & Miles

Has your horse been sitting for a few months—or even years—but was previously ridden? Are you considering selling your horse and want to assess their current training before listing them? Maybe life got busy, and now you're ready to ride again but aren't sure what your horse remembers?
If so, Southside Performance Horses, LLC is here to help!

Filly from Colt Starting Comp

Our Refresher & Miles program is designed for horses that have already been started under saddle but need additional time to regain confidence, fitness, or responsiveness. Whether your horse needs a light tune-up or more consistent miles, we will assess their current abilities and develop a personalized training plan to bring them back to their best.

What This Program Includes:

• Evaluating what your horse remembers and where they need improvement.
• Rebuilding confidence in riding, groundwork, and handling.
• Establishing softness, responsiveness, and consistency under saddle.
• Improving fitness and overall conditioning through controlled riding sessions.
• Exposure to different obstacles, environments, and exercises based on their needs.

Seamless Transition into Discipline Training

If you initially bring your horse for a refresher but decide to continue training, we can seamlessly transition into discipline-specific work.
For example:
• A horse getting a refresher may progress into jumping, western pleasure, or trail work if the owner wishes.
• Depending on how the horse is advancing, additional discipline-specific training can be incorporated into their existing stay.
We will discuss your goals, evaluate your horse’s progress, and adjust their training plan as needed to ensure they get the best possible experience.

Training Duration & Expectations

• Horses must stay for a minimum of one month, but there is no maximum stay—owners can extend training as needed.
• The longer a horse stays, the more consistent and refined their progress will be.
• Regular updates and progress reports will be provided.

Owner Communication

When inquiring about refresher training, please provide details on:
• What your horse has previously done under saddle.
• How long they have been out of work.
• If they had/have any bad habits such as bolting, rearing, striking, etc.
• Any specific concerns or goals you have for their training.
This helps us create the best training plan for both you and your horse!
